Assynt is a sparsely populated area in the south-west of Sutherland, tucked away in the far North Western corner of Scotland. Known for its extraordinary landscape, remarkable mountains and untouched White sandy beaches, this is an area of extreme diversity and offers up a multitude of opportunities photographically and creatively.
Join us for a really special 5 night retreat based in the very heart of Assynt in our very own Highland lodge. With limited accommodation in the area, we are fortunate to have the beautiful Newton Lodge all to ourselves, allowing for complete relaxation. Situated in close proximity and sister to the indulgent Kylesku Hotel, we will have the opportunity to indulge in fine dining, enjoy the cosy bar and warm ourselves up in front of the wood burner.
Wendy is a wonderfully talented contemporary photographic artist from Surrey. The natural landscape is the inspiration behind Wendy's work, which is an interpretation of what she sees. Wendy's approach is unrestrictive and often with an abstract quality, augmenting the light, texture and topography of the landscape, creating pieces that aim to evoke an emotional connection with the viewer.
We both share the same vision and values and are both wholly invested in your personal development, whilst ensuring you have a fully immersive experience.
This is a unique opportunity to spend time developing a more creative approach to your photography, using a variety of in camera techniques such as intentional camera movement and multiple exposures, as well as a chance to spend quality time delving into both Shona and Wendy's processing and editing workflow.
Shona is a Scottish Photographer, specialising in Seascape and ICM Photography. Heavily influenced by contemporary art and abstract minimalism, Shona has spent the past few years developing her passion for intentional camera movement (ICM photography).
Technique is extremely important to Shona and whilst ICM photography demonstrates a certain creative freedom and experimentation, Shona applies a considered, focussed and disciplined approach to her work ensuring the best results are achieved in camera. Often described as creating a sense of calm through her imagery, Shona manages to capture emotional depth, solitude, tranquillity and haunting beauty in her work, all whilst maintaining her distinctive painterly style.
Known as an inspirational leader and speaker, Shona also has a wealth of experience in coaching, mentoring and developing teams and loves nothing more than helping people reach their full potential.
Wendy is a photographic artist who lives in Surrey, England. The natural landscape is the inspiration behind her work, which is an interpretation of what she sees. Wendy's approach is unrestrictive and often with an abstract quality, augmenting the light, texture and topography of the landscape, creating pieces that aim to evoke an emotional connection with the viewer.
Wendy is not restricted to a single subject matter within the landscape, which is important, as it enables her to be authentic and driven by what she connects with. This affords her freedom, allowing Wendy's work to to span different landscape genres. Her approach is therefore diverse and she uses a range of in camera techniques to achieve the final result. Wendy becomes immersed in the landscape, lost in imagination and works without boundaries. Her work invites the viewer to find quiet from their internal voice, and become absorbed in abstract representations of natural forms.
Wendy has exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition and the Toronto Photography festival. She sells limited edition, archival prints, and has worked with a variety of commercial clients.
