Imagine travelling to one of the world's most spectacular places, where majestic mountains rise straight from crystal-clear seas, white sandy beaches meet dramatic coastlines, and the soft Arctic light transforms the landscape throughout the day.
Lofoten is a place that feels almost otherworldly, where you will discover charming fishing villages, peaceful fjords, rugged Arctic peaks, and breathtaking beaches that invite you to slow down and take it all in.
And as darkness falls, you may even have the chance to witness the Northern Lights dancing across the sky, adding another layer of magic to an already unforgettable landscape.
Lofoten is a place that asks you to slow down. And in autumn, as the days grow quieter and the landscape begins to shift, these extraordinary islands seem to invite it even more. In a world that so often encourages us to rush from one moment to the next, Lofoten offers something different: space to breathe, space to notice, and space to truly see and be present.
This special and unique autumn retreat is about the art of seeing. It’s about learning to look beyond the obvious, to notice the subtle shifts in light, texture, colour, and atmosphere, and to develop a deeper connection with the landscape around you. As autumn brings a changing palette of earthy tones, rich colour and softer, more atmospheric light, we’ll embrace the season as an integral part of the creative experience.
Rather than simply chasing photographs, we will spend time immersing ourselves in each location, allowing creativity to unfold naturally. We’ll look for the quiet details as well as the grand vistas, responding to the changing weather and light and creating images that reflect not just what we see, but how we feel.
Together we will explore Lofoten’s dramatic coastlines, windswept beaches, towering peaks and colourful fishing villages, surrounded by the distinctive beauty of the Nordic autumn. We’ll embrace a slower, more intentional way of travelling, taking time to connect with the local culture and discover the stories and traditions woven into these islands, while experiencing the unique relationship between the people and this extraordinary landscape.
Whether you are an experienced photographer or simply someone longing to reconnect with your creativity, this retreat is an invitation to pause, observe and be inspired. Autumn encourages us to notice change: the turning of the seasons, the changing light, the movement of weather across the mountains and the fleeting moments of colour and atmosphere. You’ll leave not only with beautiful photographs, but with a renewed appreciation for slowing down, seeing the world with fresh eyes, and finding beauty in the moments that are so often overlooked.
This is a truly unique opportunity to immerse yourself in one of the world’s most breath-taking landscapes at a particularly atmospheric time of year, while developing a more creative and intuitive approach to photography.
Throughout the retreat, we’ll explore a range of in-camera techniques—including intentional camera movement, multiple exposures, and creative ways of working with light and composition—to help you move beyond simply documenting a place and start expressing how it feels. The changing autumn conditions will provide endless opportunities to experiment, from soft, moody skies and dramatic weather to fleeting moments of warm light and rich seasonal colour.
Alongside our time in the field, you’ll also have the opportunity to spend quality time with both Shona and Wendy as they share their individual processing and editing workflows. Together, we’ll explore how thoughtful post-processing can enhance mood, emphasise the character of the season, tell a story, and bring your creative vision to life. You’ll come away with practical techniques, fresh inspiration and new ways of seeing that you can continue to explore long after leaving Lofoten.

Shona Perkins and Wendy Bagnall are really excited to introduce the very first Creative Photography Workshop from Quiet Light Retreats.
This collaboration has grown from a shared love of photography and a desire to create workshops that offer something a little more meaningful than simply taking pictures. They wanted to design an experience where creativity, connection and time to slow down sit at the heart of every retreat.
Quiet Light Retreats are for photographers who want to pause, reconnect with their creativity and elevate their craft in a supportive, inspiring environment. Keeping their groups intentionally small, allowing plenty of one-to-one mentoring, thoughtful conversations and the space to develop your own unique way of seeing.
You'll stay in beautiful, comfortable accommodation with a little touch of luxury, enjoy carefully curated local experiences, and spend time photographing some truly special landscapes. Whether it's greeting the sunrise with your camera, sharing ideas over coffee, or telling stories around the dinner table, leaving feeling inspired, refreshed and more connected to your photography.
Both Shona and Wendy can't wait to welcome you and share this experience with you.

Shona is a professional photographer and founder of My Beautiful Scotland, specialising in Seascape and ICM Photography, whilst heavily influenced by contemporary art and abstract minimalism, Shona has spent the past few years developing her passion for the creative genre of intentional camera movement (ICM photography).
Technique is extremely important to Shona and whilst ICM photography demonstrates a certain creative freedom and experimentation, Shona applies a considered, focussed and disciplined approach to her work ensuring the best results are achieved in camera. Often described as creating a sense of calm through her imagery, Shona manages to capture emotional depth, solitude, tranquillity and haunting beauty in her work, all whilst maintaining her distinctive painterly style.
Known as an inspirational leader and speaker, Shona also has a wealth of experience in coaching, mentoring and developing teams and loves nothing more than helping people reach their full potential.

Wendy is a photographic artist who lives in Surrey, England. The natural landscape is the inspiration behind her work, which is an interpretation of what she sees. Wendy's approach is unrestrictive and often with an abstract quality, augmenting the light, texture and topography of the landscape, creating pieces that aim to evoke an emotional connection with the viewer.
Wendy is not restricted to a single subject matter within the landscape, which is important, as it enables her to be authentic and driven by what she connects with. This affords her freedom, allowing Wendy's work to to span different landscape genres. Her approach is therefore diverse and she uses a range of in camera techniques to achieve the final result. Wendy becomes immersed in the landscape, lost in imagination and works without boundaries. Her work invites the viewer to find quiet from their internal voice, and become absorbed in abstract representations of natural forms.
Wendy has exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition and the Toronto Photography festival. She sells limited edition, archival prints, and has worked with a variety of commercial clients.
