With Shona Perkins.
Master the magic of ICM photography, broaden your understanding, develop your technique, refine your style and allow your creativity to flourish.
Our 1 day workshops are ideal for anyone who has an interest in creative seascape photography, whether you are new to ICM photography, wish to advance your skills, or just spend time with like minded creative photographers, Shona will tailor the day to suit the needs of everyone who attends.
Shona has spent the past 15 years exploring the beautiful beaches of East Lothian, the Sottish Borders and the wonderful Northumberland coast and knows them well, ensuring you the best opportunity to maximise potential for all conditions.
Join Shona for an inspirational day, learning all about the beautiful art of intentional camera movement (ICM), where Shona will delve into all her techniques, processes and considerations that she applies to her own work. Giving you first hand insight into how she creates her recognisable, painterly style.
Shona specialises in Seascape and ICM photography, heavily influenced by contemporary art and abstract minimalism, Shona has spent the past few years developing her love for intentional camera movement (ICM).
Often described as creating a sense of calm through her imagery, Shona manages to capture solitude, tranquillity and haunting beauty in her work, all whilst maintaining her distinctive painterly style.
Technique is extremely important to Shona and whilst ICM photography demonstrates a certain freedom and creativity, Shona applies a considered, focussed and disciplined approach to her work ensuring the best results are achieved in camera.
Known as an inspirational leader, Shona also has a wealth of experience in coaching, mentoring and developing teams, having worked at a Senior level in Retail Management for 20+ years. Shona loves nothing more than helping people reach their full potential.
Shona has spent the past 15 years exploring the beaches close to where she lives in Edinburgh and knows them well. From the beautiful golden sands in East Lothian to the miles of extensive and often wild beaches of Northumberland.
Connection with place is extremely important to Shona's work and with Shona's intimate knowledge of these areas, this will truly enhance your experience, allowing you to get the best from each location you visit.
Shona is happy to work with all levels of experience, however, a basic understanding of digital photography is required as well as having a camera that has shutter priority mode / manual mode capability.
Experience working with neutral density filters is preferred but not essential.
Having a small group of just 4 allows Shona quality time to spend with each person attending.
Shona will share all her knowledge and experience, focussing primarily on her techniques, processes and all her considerations in which she applies to her own work. Whilst demonstrating how different shutter speeds and movements can effect the final outcome of your images.
The beauty of ICM photography aside from the unique and creative opportunities it brings, is the ability to work without a big kit bag!
All you need is a camera with manual mode capability and a 6 stop ND filter to allow us to work with slower shutter speeds throughout the day.
A tripod is optional.

THANK YOU FOR THE AMAZING, INSPIRING, JOYFILLED DAY, YESTERDAY!!!
It was divinely perfect. Your mentoring skills and knowledge base are over the top.
Grateful I made the decision to connect with you. I am returning home feeling empowered and excited about further explorations into ICM.
When I woke on Friday morning, I thought ‘oh no’. The mist was thick and there was a light drizzle, not ideal for a photography workshop on the coast, I thought. Shona’s first words however were, don’t worry, it’s perfect, and the day just got better from there.
After coffee and cake and a short introduction, our little group headed to the first of 3 local beaches. The tide was coming in and the sea quite rough, perfect for ICM.
This was my first taste of ICM and I couldn’t have chosen a better tutor. Shona is so enthusiastic about her craft and her enthusiasm is infectious. She spent time with each of us who were all at different stages, encouraging, guiding and patiently suggesting different techniques and that enthusiasm never waned. Although I still have a lot to learn, I came away with the skills to practice and improve and a few images I am proud of.. There is definitely another workshop on the horizon, can’t wait! Thank you Shona
I cannot recommend Shona’s ICM Workshop enough! Her enthusiasm and excitement about ICM comes across from start to finish and I found myself being inspired to match her enthusiasm.
A brilliant instructor, she gives easy to follow tips to capture the look you are after. She spent time with each person guiding us with ways to capture our images.
I loved her workshop so much I shall be booking another very soon.
